I am passionate about public health.  Though I had not worked directly with people with disabilities, I was eager to know more and be of great support.  With a referral from a worker at Arcane Horizon, I am glad I made one of the best decisions.

What brought you to the Arcane Horizon community?

Why do you stay? 

The work we do goes beyond just work but more of a family interaction with the staff and people we support. Family treats each other with respect, love and patience, knowing we have different abilities and we need to support each other 

What is the best thing about your job? 

The best thing about my job is being oneself and not be scared to be judged of your inabilities. Competence is required with an opportunity to be creative and explorative in our field of work. 
 

What has been the most impactful or meaningful experience you have had? 

I have had to learn how to communicate and fully express using sign language. This has also taught me to understand expressions and be mindful of everything as I work with people who do not use the conventional way of communicating. We often lean to the conventional ways of getting to know what other people want, need or expect but in our field of work, expressions are the only way or communicating. 
 

What do you want others to know about working with the Arcane Horizon community? 

The Arcane Horizon community is a friendly interactive community that supports one another every time. We take pride in quality service delivery and we embrace our differences which becomes our strength. 
 

What brought you to the Arcane Horizon Community? 

I had worked in the field previously with 2 other agencies, but decided to take a step back in 2018, due to personal and professional reasons. After about a year I found myself reflecting on the work I did and began to realize just how much I missed it. It was truly the one thing I felt most comfortable doing, like it was a part of me. When I made the decision to re-enter this field, I knew it had to be a mutual fit. A place I could do what I love, making a difference in the lives of others, but that also worked for me too. That’s when I found the Arcane Horizon Community. From the first phone call I received from Erika, my first interview with Trent, to my 2 in home orientations. It was the energy, the feeling of belonging, family. It was like I had already worked with them for years. I knew I had found my place. 
 

Why do you stay? 

I stay because when I go to work, it doesn’t feel like work. It feels like I’m going to my 2nd home, to spend time with my extended family. Not only do I have the privilege of helping others in providing them support in their day to day lives, I learn so much through them; about life, about myself. It’s a fulfillment that can’t be explained in words. 

What is the best thing about your job? 

The best thing about my job is knowing the work I do means something to someone else. Witnessing a goal become an accomplishment. Seeing a smile after a bad or challenging day. Receiving a hug, knowing a bond has been built. 

What has been the most impactful or meaningful experience you have had? 

This field, this work, it’s special; but it also comes with its challenges. Working with the Arcane Horizon Community, not only will you become a part of a team, you’ll become a part of a family. You will always be supported. I don’t know any better feeling than that. 
 

What brought you to the Arcane Horizon community? 

I was working in different agency when I applied to the Arcane Community 5 years ago.  To be honest I didn’t like how the agency treated the individuals I supported. So I decided to find a new job, then I saw a job posting at Arcane Horizon. 
 

Why do you stay? 

I stay because the Arcane Horizon Community is my second family. 

What is the best thing about your job? 

That I can continue advocating for all the vulnerable individuals I support.  

What has been the most impactful or meaningful experience you have had? 

Seeing all the individuals during Arcane events or social events, seeing all their faces and enjoying the moment with friends and family.  

What do you want others to know about working with the Arcane Horizon Community? 

Working in Arcane Community is one of the best thing that’s happened to me. Being part of this organization feels like I am working and at the same time enjoying my time with the individuals I support. Getting all the support from higher management and treating everyone with respect and dignity is one of the best things about being here. It doesn’t matter what position you’re in, everyone will treat you the same. And I am proud to say this because I experienced working as a DSP through to becoming a Coordinator.  The Arcane Community is a family not just a residential house.

What brought you to the Arcane Horizon community?  

I have always wanted to work in this field of work, I came across Arcane and I really stood behind their values and mission. 

Why do you stay?  

I stay with Arcane because it feels like one big family. The staff and individuals that I am with daily are some my best friends. Everyone works together regardless of job title, age, gender, ethnicity. 

What is the best thing about your job?  

The best thing about my job is knowing I am helping people and they are helping me. We all learn from each other every single day.  

What has been the most impactful or meaningful experience you have had?  

The most meaningful experience I have had, is getting to know the people I support and grow close to them in every aspect of life. They teach me things every day.  

What do you want others to know about working with the Arcane Horizon Community?  

Arcane horizon is a great community to work for. Everyone supports each other. One big happy family.  

What brought you to the Arcane Horizon Community?  

Back in 2019, I was just working in retail part time and attending university full time working towards my Sociology and Conflict Resolution degree. I wanted a change in jobs and came across an opening with Arcane online. I applied without any experience in the field and had an interview. I ended up being hired and there has been no looking back since. Little did I know that this change in jobs would also change my life.  

Why do you stay?  

Arcane is not just a job to me, it’s a family, a community of some of the most incredible people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I stay because of the bonds I have created over the year and a bit I have been with Arcane. I think what is most meaningful is just that. You create an everlasting bond with all of the individuals and staff. Every day is something different and every day I feel excited to come to work with a smile on my face knowing I am making a difference in someone else's life.  
 
What is the best thing about your job? 

The best part of this job would have to be all the memories made working with the individuals I support. In just over a year, I have made so many memories. From simple things like karaoke and baking cookies at the house, to other things like summer outings in the community, birthday parties, and even fishing. These memories are not just for me, but for the individuals as well. Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughs make everything that much sweeter. It will always be something I hold near and dear to my heart.  

What has been the most impactful or meaningful experience you have had?  

I think for myself, the most impactful/meaningful experience I have had yet would have to be the time I assisted a gentleman I support fishing out on the boat. My entire life is surrounded by the outdoors, and fishing is one of my biggest passions. Being able to teach and share that moment with him was such a rewarding feeling. Especially when he caught his first fish, which so happened to be a giant catfish! He was over the moon excited, and from that moment on he too fell in love with fishing and continued to have fishing days throughout the summer. Being able to share something I enjoy so much and teaching someone who is interested in it makes it even more special.  

What do you want others to know about working with the Arcane Horizon Community?  

If there is one thing that I would want someone to know about the experience working at Arcane Horizon is simply just go for it! Be yourself, and nothing else will matter. This is a judgement free zone, with plenty of room for growth and opportunity. Working with the Arcane Horizon community has been extremely rewarding. The friendships are like no other, and it is truly the best job ever!
